Greenbelt Alliance analyzed the capacity of the Bay Area to accommodate growth with infill development, building on existing research to calculate the room available in the region's cities and towns. This infill model maps land that is likely to redevelop naturally, due to economic forces, as property owners and developers replace vacant land, parking lots, and strip malls with something better. The model also adds in efforts by Bay Area city governments to spur growth in downtowns and near transit.
